Risk and reward.

Don't drive an old car they say, it is not safe they say.

The #1 cause of harm in moving vehicle is between the steering wheel and the seat.

I sometimes ride my electric unicycle, which has no steering wheel and no seat, nevermind seatbelt, or antilock braking system, the only braking is provided by the regen brake from the motor, it does have 64 bit computerized stability control, in exactly one axis. Every millisecond driving the EUC requires driver input to prevent toppling. By the new car buyer logic, I should've been long dead.

People in California right turn on red, they should stop and check to make sure it is safe before doing so but they don't, they treat it as a green. A new car is not going to make it safe.

With the world of stock investing, the term getting explosure to loss equates to opportunity for gain.

The amount of potential gain is supposed to be proportional to the risk.

So our norminal idea of working hard, paying more to avoid risk is ignoring the reward behind some risks. There are dumb risks with no gain, and then there are risks that are totally worth it.

Why do we live?

In the comment, people considered risk of riding motorcycle and how folks who don't ride cannot understand how in a minute on the bike, you can live more than a lifetime's worth.

Here is a snapshot of some of the interesting stocks today. You can compare it to the prices when you read it and see if this holds true.

Stocks are interesting in South Korea now, because of the cost of real estate compared to salary, guys have no choice but to gamble in the stock market. Coupled that with availability of margin, it became the only legal way out to those not buying in the "last generation" mind set.
