Folks without kids are horrified at the thoughts of the all important car's precious shiny sheet metal getting destroyed this way. But Homer and Marge's only annoyance was the shells didn't get clean before they glued them on and it was attracting seagulls as they drive down the highway.
Folks with kids understood none of their worldly possessions matter when you have kids. Because it is in the nature of the kids to destroy those plastic objects you once held dear. In the end, it is the people in your life that matters.
Folks with cats understood the cats demand their attention when they really need to focus on something other than the furball.
Buddism believes that attachment to worldly possessions causes suffering. To achieve love and enlightenment, one needs to let go of that attachment.
