I think quite a lot about the idea in this song, it is a simple one, that everything eventually dies, including relationships. Just because we do not know when and how exactly it will end has no effect on the inevitability that it will end. Maybe death, seperation, or disagreement, whatever the cause, you can imagine a hidden timer somewhere ticking down until it reaches the end.
To live our life or a relationship without cognizance of this fact has caused so much waste it is depressing to think about. Taking people and things for granted, missed opportunities, the road not taken.
I once traveled thousands of miles and spend some quality time with aging relatives, as we say goodbye before we flew back home, I gave the eldest uncle one last look and realized that may well be the last time I ever see him. That hit pretty hard.
Hard to relate to a person, but how about places? My favorite nerd places to hang out - Radio Shack (Card Carrying Battery Club Member), Fry's Electronics, my favorite HK style restaurant ABC, all gone around COVID time, other than Fry's, which died a prolonged death, can't really remember the last time I was there and moreover, completely unaware at the time that was the very last time I will ever get to be there.
They say live every day like it is your last, or, as the song says, realize there is a unseen count down that is rapid running out until it ends and it will all be gone.
"All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

Software can outlive hardware.
Love can outlive the relationship.
The algorithm of how to arrange something is the software, the algorithm needs the thing it arranges to manifest itself in visible form, but the algorithm itself is without substance, it is eternal.
I think of love as the same, it is a feeling that drives us to act in certain way. It manifest itself into being and acts on a relationship. While the relationship may cease to exist, the love it self can live on. Or not. It too, of course can die, as all precious things do.
